What is a good schedule?
Posted on Oct 28, 2010 in blog, question, training | 0 commentsOK, I haven’t been very good at improving my running. But it is time to get serious!
I thought about joining a running group but a) I’m very slow and b) I go between Vancouver and New York so it is hard to be consistent.
So, for now, I’m starting slow on my own. I’m going to start at 5 minute running intervals with one minute of walking. Each week I will add 1 minute to the running. I will start with 4 days/week – 2 days with 3 sets; 1 day with 5 sets; and 1 day with 7 sets.
I’m not sure of the best days to jog…was going to do Tues/Thurs/Sat/Sun…but realized that I prefer running when there are less people = weekdays. So, I will do the following:
- Monday – 3 sets
- Wednesday – 5 sets
- Friday – 3 sets
- Saturday or Sunday – 7 sets
- The other days will have a minimum of 10 miles biking or 1.5 miles of walking.
Once I’ve done these sets at 10 minutes of jogging, I’ll be looking to change things, probably adding a day of running.
What do you think? Is there a better way?
